SXSW is hopeful that once people feel it’s safe enough to return to what will be the new normal of life, there will be a real enthusiasm for getting back and being around other humans. They stated in their release following the conclusion of this week’s online festival “We can’t wait to bring people together again.”
SXSW 2022 will be the biggest festival yet as it spans an incredible 28 days. The SXSW team is working closely with Austin Public Health to make sure that post-vaccine safety protocols are met for all attendees and guests of this year’s theme, “Innovating Human: Where Do We Go From Here?”
SXSW has grown into such a large event in recent years largely because they have always been innovative when crafting their events. For example, one change made was ensuring there were enough restrooms on-site since last year’s crowd surpassed 1 million people. This new approach proved so successful that organizers had no choice but to set up additional urinals and stalls throughout the park just weeks before opening day last October.

Austin has not been the same since March; that is when it was hit with a devastating flood. The city looks different, feels different – life as we knew it before this event simply does not exist anymore. In an interview made by NPR just two weeks ago, Dr. Escott shared his thoughts on SXSW next year and I find them to be both honest and hopeful: “I’m very confident that SXSW will look normal or near-normal next year.”
SXSW is an interesting and unique festival that hosts politicians, musicians, filmmakers, artists from all over the world. The 2021 event featured speeches by Stacey Abrams and Pete Buttigieg alongside appearances of big-name stars like Willie Nelson or Demi Lovato who premiered her new show there at SXSW’s Film Festival.

How much does it cost to attend SXSW?
It costs just $325 and will be on sale soon! You’ll get a pass for the entire festival with this one purchase. Don’t miss out, though; as they sell more passes, their price increases to an even higher cost of $399.
Is SXSW free to attend?
Does SXSW have any badges left? You can purchase an official badge on their website, but if you’re looking for a place to stay (or just want some free time in Austin), there are plenty of unofficial showcases where you don’t need one.
