Participants in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame The North American leg of Journey’s 50th-anniversary tour, with special guest Toto, will continue through 2023. The second leg of their Freedom Tour kicks up in Allentown on February 4. The tour continues through April, visiting cities such as Columbia, Austin, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City, Memphis, and Fresno. Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, and Ottawa will host future tournaments in Canada. The tour began in the new year, following the conclusion of a brief Las Vegas engagement at the end of 2021.

In 2018, Journey and Def Leppard embarked on a co-headlining tour that visited 58 North American locations. The name of the tour was “Rocks the Nation.” They started a massive tour of North America and Asia the year before they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2016, they collaborated with The Doobie Brothers, and former Journey drummer Steve Smith joined them onstage for the first time since the 1990s.

Still Riding

Since the band’s inception in 1973, Journey has put out more than 50 individual singles. Only Neal Schon, responsible for lead guitar and backing vocals, has been a member of the band since it was first established, making the band’s Journey along the way nothing short of astonishing. Ross Valory, the band’s original bassist, was let go in 1985 but later rejoined the band in 1995 and is still a member of Journey to this day. Within the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the band Journey was honored with a star in 2005. 2017 marked the year that the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. As a result of the significant number of lineup changes, two drummers and two keyboardists were invited to join Journey as band members.

Bottom Lines

Rock band Journey has remained popular throughout the decades since its inception. 1975 saw the publication of the band’s debut album, which was titled, but its popularity took off in 1978 with the release of its fourth studio album, Infinity. This album was the first to feature legendary vocalist Steve Perry, and it was responsible for the band’s meteoric rise. When it was initially released, “Open Arms” was the most popular song, but “Don’t Stop Believin'” has become an international anthem and is still popular after over three decades. The Journey has remained successful despite experiencing many personnel shifts and extended breaks between album releases. Eclipse, the band’s most recent album, debuted on the Billboard 200 chart at position 13.
