Originally from Finland, Insomnium has made a name for itself with its catchy brand of death metal. The band has been active since 1997 when they began making albums and toured to other continents. Aesthetically, the band is unlike any other in death metal, thanks to their gloomy, foreboding music and impressive musical chops.
Niilo Savanen, Ville Friman, Markus Hirvonen, and Markus Vanalad make up one of the most revered melodic death metal bands in Insomnium. In 1997, band members began sharing vocals and playing for audiences in Joensuu, Finland. Even though the band started playing live shows immediately, their first demo wasn’t released until 1999, and their second wasn’t released until 2000. After the release of their second demo, Candlelight Records of the United Kingdom signed the band and assisted with the release of their debut album, In the Halls of Awaiting. With increasing critical praise and fan support, the band has produced five additional studio albums and one extended play.
