For PFL 6, Kayla Harrison will face a fresh foe. Invicta FC title contender Kaitlin Young will square off against the previous lightweight tournament victor.
At PFL 6, the 31-year-old was scheduled to compete against former Bellator featherweight champion Julia Budd. The contest was anticipated to be Harrison’s toughest test to yet. The contest, however, is no more.
The first outlet to publish Julia Budd’s withdrawal from PFL 6 was ESPN MMA. The extent of the injuries wasn’t made public. What is known, though, is Harrison’s opponent for PFL 6 next month. Famous women’s rights activist Kaitlin Young is her rival.
Since she began competing in 2007, the 36-year-old has defeated Miesha Tate, Julie Kedzie, and Cindy Dandois. In 2014, she announced her retirement from the game and started serving as Invicta FC’s matchmaker. When she finally came out of retirement in 2018, her results were uneven.
In the PFL, Kaitlin Young is presently on a two-fight losing skid. Despite her current losing run, she won’t be too far from a chance to defend her Invicta FC featherweight title in 2019.
The fight’s overwhelming favorite is likely to be Kayla Harrison on the opposing side. The gold medalist is 13-0 overall in her mixed martial arts career and recently defeated Marina Mokhnatkina. In her reputable career so far, she has essentially been untested.
On Twitter, the former lightweight PFL tournament winner responded to the information. Given Young’s track record, some fans criticized the announcement of the bout. Harrison emphasized that she did not book the fight or withdraw from the initial contest.
