The band first played together in 2007, and their 2009 first album, Lungs, was a tremendous commercial success, becoming one of the year’s best-selling records. Since then, they’ve released four more albums, the most recent of which, ‘Dance Fever,’ came out in May of 2022.
They have been nominated for many Grammys, a Mercury Prize, and a BRIT Award for their outstanding work in the music industry.

Final thoughts
Band leader and lead singer Florence Welch established Florence and the Machine in London, England, in 2007. The band released their self-titled first album in July of 2009 and won the Critics’ Choice award at the 2009 BRIT Awards. Some have compared the music’s style to a cross between rock and soul, with occasional hints of other musical traditions. Because of Welch’s distinctive vocal style and strikingly distinctive flame-red hair, Florence and the Machine have become instantly recognized. Welch made history in 2015 by being the first British female performer ever to headline the Glastonbury Festival.
They have put in for no less than six Grammys, and in 2010, their album “Lungs” took home the BRIT Award for Best British Album. The same year, the band played to an estimated 28,000 people at Australia’s Splendour in the Grass festival (of the roughly 33,000 who attended the festival). In June 2018, they launched their album High as Hope.
