The Cinematic Orchestra is an English group that creates soulful and experimental music. The band was formed in 1997, by Tom Chant, J Swinscoe, Phil France Patrick Carpenter Stuart McCallum Nick Ramm Jamie Coleman Alex James Luke Flowers, and T Daniel Howard all of whom are musicians with different backgrounds ranging from hip hop to jazz.
Their style fuses a variety of genres including electronic acid jazz ninja trip-hop downtempo funk Soul blues classical Indian melodies Brazilian rhythms African drums Latin percussion New Orleans Bounce rap dancehall dubstep folk-rock gospel country disco-punk reggae ska metal orasta nujazz house techno boogie electro-swing acoustic post-bop neo-psychedelic space-age gypsy new wave indie electronica progressive.
The Cinematic Orchestra has been writing music for the big screen recently, and they’re not slowing down any time soon. The group of composers has written scores from 2004 to 2008 that include Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup infants (2004) and Disney Nature’s Crimson Wing movie release on December 17th, 2008. Their latest album Ma Fleur features vocals by Patrick Watson with Fontella Bass & Lou Rhodes on it as well.”
