With the announcement of over a dozen new North American dates this spring, Amos Lee has extended the duration of his upcoming Dreamland tour into August 2022. One of the stops on this tour will be in Bend.

The coast-to-coast full band tour brings the number of shows on Lee’s Dreamland tour to well over 50. Some of the tour’s highlights include the Beacon Theatre in New York City, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., alongside The National Symphony Orchestra, and the picturesque Hayden Homes Amphitheater along the Deschutes River in Central Oregon.

Danielle Ponder, an up-and-coming R&B and soul star, is performing alongside Lee. Her mesmerizing debut album, “Some of Us Are Brave,” is an original burst of pop, blues, soul, and rock, all tied together by Ponder’s otherworldly voice talents. The album was recorded for three years.

About Amos Lee

Amos Lee is almost as well recognized for his dedication to charitable causes as his musical ability. Since 2007, Lee has volunteered with the non-profit organization Musicians on Call. This organization allows musicians to perform live music for hospital patients to cheer them up. Lee was particularly moved by the plight of children confined to hospitals because they suffered from life-threatening illnesses. After that, he became involved with Wounded Warriors and the Melodic Caring Project. He even began streaming live videos to patients who could not leave their homes because they were under quarantine. My New Moon, Lee’s most recent album, is full of songs he penned after discovering both inspiration and devastating losses among the families he came in contact with.

How did Amos Lee spend his time before becoming a musician?

As an indie-soul singer known for his laid-back persona and smooth vocals, you might be surprised to learn that Amos Lee used to be an elementary school teacher. In the beginning, Lee tested the waters of the music industry by participating in open mic nights held in and around his hometown of Philadelphia. Evenings found Lee tending bar at a local bar and grille in the neighborhood. Lee’s humble beginnings may be responsible for his laid-back attitude and desire to avoid fame.

What other musicians have had an impact on Amos Lee’s sound?

While Otis Redding and Sam Cooke influenced Amos Lee’s acoustic soul sound, the singer also incorporates elements of blues-rock and country into his performance. As they grew up, the musician was heavily influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Donny Hathaway, Bill Withers, and Luther Vandross. Lee’s soulful musical expression is unquestionably affected by the wide range of musical styles he enjoys.

Bottom Lines

Amos Lee was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a soul and folk singer-songwriter from the United States of America. He was born in 1977, but it wasn’t until he was in college that he developed an interest in music. He quickly joined a band, where he played guitar and bass, after being moved to do so by artists such as Otis Redding and Luther Vandross.

After completing his education, he began performing at open mic nights. As a result of his efforts at local music venues, he was eventually allowed to open for B.B. King and other artists.

Following the acquisition of one of Lee’s demos by Blue Note Records in 2003, he was well on his way into the music industry; his self-titled debut album was released exactly two years later.

It opened the door for more music to be created, and Lee released two more records before reaching his career pinnacle: he topped the Billboard 200 with 2011’s ‘Mission Bell.’ In 2013, he came back with the release of his most recent album, “Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song.”
